The Onion, a satirical news outlet known for mocking Alex Jones, won the bankruptcy auction for control over his media company, including InfoWars, Jones’ primary online platform for far-right conspiracy content. Jones announced the sale Thursday, stating, “The Connecticut Democrats with The Onion newspaper bought us.” The Onion plans to shut down InfoWars and relaunch the site with humor content.

Jones, who gained fame through InfoWars by promoting conspiracy theories, owes nearly $1.5 billion in damages to the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims for defamation. Funds from the sale are intended to pay creditors, primarily the Sandy Hook families. Details of the auction remain undisclosed, including the purchase price for Free Speech Systems, InfoWars’ parent company.
