New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu expressed support for former President Trump, despite acknowledging Trump’s contribution to the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021. Sununu confirmed his stance during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos.

Sununu stated, “I think his actions absolutely contributed to that… I hate the election denialism of 2020.” Despite this, he is endorsing Trump for the presidency, emphasizing his support for a Republican administration and prioritizing states’ rights, individual rights, and parents’ rights.

Sununu, who previously supported former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley in the Republican presidential primaries, has frequently criticized Trump. He affirmed that his support is about the party ticket, not Trump, stating, “It’s about up and down the ballot.”

When Stephanopoulos questioned Sununu’s support for a president who contributed to an insurrection, Sununu responded, “As does 51 percent of America, George.” He reiterated that his support is about changing the current state of affairs and promoting a Republican culture.
