Caroline Dias Goncalves, a nursing student at the University of Utah, was released Friday after spending 15 days in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in Aurora, Colorado. Detained on June 5 following a Mesa County traffic stop, her arrest drew national attention amid growing concern over Donald Trump‘s expanded ICE operations.

Goncalves, who was brought to the United States from Brazil at age 7, was arrested after a sheriff’s deputy allegedly shared her information with ICE via Signal. The deputy is under investigation for potentially violating Colorado law, which limits cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.

In a statement, Goncalves described dehumanizing conditions, including soggy food and language-based discrimination. “No one deserves to be treated like that,” she said. “Not in a country I’ve called home since I was 7.”

Her arrest comes amid reports that ICE has been instructed to detain at least 3,000 people per day, many without criminal records. “Enough is enough,” said Gaby Pacheco of TheDream.US, calling her detention unjustified and traumatic.
