Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the U.S. strikes on Iran are not “open-ended” nor aimed at “regime change,” but solely to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He stressed the scope of the mission was “intentionally limited.”
President Trump and Vice President Vance declared the operation — which destroyed three nuclear facilities — a “spectacular success.” Vance emphasized, “We’re at war with Iran’s nuclear program,” not with the country itself.
The strikes, dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer, were executed Saturday night using seven B-2 stealth bombers. Two 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs hit the underground Fordow site, while 14 more struck additional facilities in Natanz and Isfahan. A U.S. submarine also launched Tomahawk missiles at Isfahan.
Hegseth warned Iran against retaliation, stating U.S. capabilities are “unlimited.” Trump echoed that message, threatening “far greater” strikes if Americans are harmed.
Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Dan Caine described the operation as “complex and high-risk,” aimed at forcing Iran to the negotiating table to renounce its nuclear ambitions.
