Donald Trump will decide “within two weeks” whether the United States will support Israel in a potential strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Trump is weighing whether military intervention is necessary, whether it could be limited in scope, and whether it would succeed in dismantling Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “There is a chance for substantial negotiations,” Leavitt said Thursday, adding that any deal must block Iran from enriching uranium.
As deliberations continue, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff remains in communication with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Iran has reportedly offered to send a delegation to Washington, though no meetings have been scheduled. Trump warned Wednesday that it may soon be “too late” for talks.
On Friday, Araghchi will meet in Geneva with the foreign ministers of the U.K., France, Germany, and the EU’s foreign policy chief. Leavitt said the U.S. will evaluate that outcome before making a final decision.
