Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) reignited debate over presidential war powers by calling Donald Trump‘s unilateral airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites “grounds for impeachment.” Her remarks prompted a heated response from the president, who ridiculed her on Truth Social, calling her “stupid” and “one of the ‘dumbest’ people in Congress.”
“She can’t stand the concept of our Country being successful again,” Trump wrote. “Instead of her constant complaining, Alexandria should go back home to Queens… go ahead and try Impeaching me, again, MAKE MY DAY!”
Ocasio-Cortez responded on X: “Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me — I’m just a silly girl,” before accusing him of violating the Constitution by bypassing congressional approval and escalating toward war.
The exchange has spotlighted divisions within the Democratic Party, as some leaders push to limit Trump’s military authority rather than pursue impeachment. Meanwhile, Republicans like House Speaker Mike Johnson questioned the constitutionality of the War Powers Act itself.
The controversy comes as a fragile ceasefire holds between Iran and Israel.
