After briefly pausing enforcement, Donald Trump’s administration is again greenlighting immigration raids targeting workers in the agriculture and hospitality sectors. Tom Homan, the president’s border czar, confirmed Thursday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations will continue at farms, hotels, and restaurants, with a focus on individuals with criminal records.
“We’re going to continue to do worksite enforcement operations,” Homan said. “Criminals come first.”
The announcement marks a reversal of last week’s pause on raids in labor-strapped sectors following internal concerns that they harmed the economy and disrupted industries reliant on immigrant labor. In a Truth Social post, Trump acknowledged that his “very aggressive” policies were removing workers who are “almost impossible to replace.”
Homan defended the renewed crackdown, saying, “There’s a right way and wrong way to hire workers,” and blamed Congress for failing to address the issue legislatively.
The Department of Homeland Security reiterated Monday that raids would resume despite economic objections from within the administration.
