Mike Pence announced on Friday that he will not endorse his former running mate, Donald Trump, for the 2024 presidential election. During an interview with Fox News, the former vice president explained his decision by highlighting differences between their agendas, stating that Trump’s current policies conflict with the conservative principles they governed with during their term.

Pence, who had previously made an unsuccessful bid for the presidency himself, expressed pride in their administration’s accomplishments but noted significant disagreements with Trump. These differences include their stances on the national debt, abortion rights, and recent legislation regarding the sale of TikTok, a social media platform owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

Trump, who has faced criticism from abortion opponents for his reluctance to support a federal abortion ban and for describing Florida’s six-week ban as “too harsh,” has taken credit for the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, thanks to his nominations of three justices. Additionally, Trump recently withdrew his support for a TikTok ban, citing the platform’s popularity.

Pence accused Trump of abandoning conservative values, specifically mentioning issues like the national debt and abortion rights during his campaign. Despite numerous endorsements from other former 2024 presidential candidates, including businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Pence joins a few who have chosen not to support Trump’s bid. Notably, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have also refrained from endorsing Trump, with Christie stating he cannot imagine voting for Trump or President Joe Biden.
