Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei surfaced Thursday with a video dismissing the impact of recent U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The address marked Khamenei’s first public appearance in a week, amid speculation he was hiding in a bunker due to assassination fears.
“They attacked our nuclear facilities, but they were unable to do anything important,” Khamenei said, accusing President Trump of exaggerating the damage.
U.S. and Israeli officials disagree. According to Israeli intelligence and a report by the Institute for Science and International Security, strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan rendered Iran’s uranium enrichment system inoperable. “It will be a long time before Iran comes anywhere near the capability it had before the attack,” the report said.
Despite Khamenei’s rhetoric, Iran suffered steep losses: top military leaders, nuclear scientists, and half its missile arsenal. Analysts say Iran’s deterrent power is at its lowest since the 1980s.
Khamenei warned that future U.S. attacks would bring “high” costs, but vowed never to surrender to American demands.
