Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) called Thursday for the deportation and denaturalization of New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, citing alleged past sympathies with convicted terrorists.
In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Ogles pointed to Mamdani’s 2020 rap lyrics referencing the Holy Land Five, members of a Muslim charity convicted in 2008 of funneling money to Hamas. Ogles argued such statements raise “serious concerns” about undisclosed affiliations during Mamdani’s naturalization process.
Ogles’s post on X referred to Mamdani as “little muhammad” and labeled him “an antisemitic, socialist, communist,” drawing swift backlash.
“This type of racism has no place in America,” said Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.), while House Homeland Security Committee Democrats called it “Racist drivel.”
Mamdani has faced repeated Islamophobic threats and pledged to boost anti-hate crime funding by 800%.
In his victory speech, Mamdani vowed to serve all New Yorkers, saying, “I will be the mayor for every New Yorker… If you are hurting, I will try to heal.”
