A federal appeals court ruled unanimously that Donald Trump can continue his federalization of 4,000 California National Guard troops amid escalating protests over immigration enforcement in Los Angeles. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision rejected Gavin Newsom‘s legal challenge, which claimed the president overstepped his constitutional authority.

In a Truth Social post, Trump praised the ruling while mocking Newsom as “incompetent.” Democratic leaders in Los Angeles expressed frustration. Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez said the federal move erodes local sovereignty, stating, “The court systems are not with us right now.”

The protests follow renewed ICE worksite raids. Border czar Tom Homan confirmed the operations will continue, targeting undocumented workers in farms and hotels. Tensions flared this week outside Dodger Stadium after false reports of ICE activity prompted protests. Homeland Security denied immigration enforcement was involved.

Separately, the Department of Justice charged a Texas man who allegedly sought fireworks to harm law enforcement during the protests, intensifying concerns over political violence.
