A group of right-wing lawmakers shut down a press conference aimed at protesting what they characterize as the mistreatment of imprisoned Capitol riot defendants after just 10 minutes, failing to counterprogram against a House select committee hearing into the riot.

As Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was speaking outside the Department of Justice, an aide cut in and said “we’ve got to go” and “the left is interrupting the press conference, we need to end it.”

The lawmakers – Reps. Greene, Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Bob Good (R-Va.) – were then swiftly whisked away from the podium and into cars that returned them to the Capitol.

Protesters blew whistles and shouted, with some holding signs calling the lawmakers “traitors” and “rapists,” the latter a reference to a DOJ investigation into allegations Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old, which he denies.
