Now, individuals who are trying to avoid pregnancy have access to a safe and effective option without a prescription.
Opill, also known as the “mini-pill,” contains one hormone, progestin, and must be taken daily. This decision is especially important given the ongoing legal battles over women’s reproductive rights.
Dr. Melissa Simon, a professor of clinical gynecology at Northwestern University, called the approval a “monumental decision,” noting that OTC birth control is already available in over 100 countries.
