Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned a wave of Russian attacks that struck hours before his high-stakes White House meeting with President Donald Trump, calling them “demonstrative and cynical.”
“This was a demonstrative and cynical Russian strike. They are aware that a meeting is taking place today in Washington that will address the end of the war,” Zelensky wrote on X.
Russian drone and missile strikes hit multiple cities overnight. In Kharkiv, seven people were killed, including a toddler, and dozens were injured. In Zaporizhzhia, three were killed and 20 wounded, while in Odesa, an energy facility was targeted.
The strikes came just after Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and ahead of Zelensky’s Monday talks with Trump and European leaders at the White House. Zelensky said he will press for “reliable security guarantees” and warned that Russia seeks to “humiliate diplomatic efforts” with continued attacks.
“The war must be ended. And it is Moscow that must hear the word: ‘Stop,’” Zelensky said.
