The White House has described public concern over drone sightings on the East Coast as a “slight overreaction.” According to an FBI official, many reported sightings were manned aircraft, with large fixed-wing sightings specifically determined to be non-drone aviation. The FBI has received 5,000 tips on drone activity but deemed fewer than 100 worthy of investigation.

Officials also dismissed foreign origin concerns, although drones have been spotted near military sites, which officials called “irresponsible.”
Senator-elect Andy Kim (D-NJ) shared on social media that most sightings he reviewed were likely aircraft, not drones. In response to the growing concerns, New York Governor Kathy Hochul urged Congress to pass the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act, aiming to address drone issues in the Northeast.
