The White House called Elon Musk’s now-deleted post questioning why “no one is even trying” to assassinate Vice President Kamala Harris “irresponsible.” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates condemned the post, saying, “Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about.”
Musk’s comment was made on his platform, X, in response to a post about a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Musk later deleted the post, calling it a “joke” and admitting it was poorly received due to the lack of context. The post drew widespread criticism, including from former Rep. Adam Kinzinger and columnist Jonah Goldberg.
This follows increased scrutiny of Musk’s online behavior, including previous controversial posts and his endorsement of Trump’s reelection.
