Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, condemned former President Trump’s recent remarks suggesting former Rep. Liz Cheney should have “guns trained on her face.” Walz described Trump’s comments as “sickening” and “un-American” in an interview Friday with Zerlina Maxwell on SiriusXM. He urged voters to see this behavior as a call to action. “This is why we need to put an end to this,” Walz stated, encouraging citizens to vote for “a new way forward.”

The remarks come amid heightened scrutiny over Trump’s rhetoric after he criticized Cheney’s foreign policy stance alongside former Vice President Dick Cheney’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. Cheney responded on social platform X, likening Trump’s remarks to a death threat, while Arizona’s attorney general’s office is reportedly investigating whether the comments could be considered a criminal threat under state law.

In the interview, Walz also expressed doubts that Trump would accept defeat if he loses the 2024 election, but assured that “safeguards” are in place to ensure election integrity. Addressing male voters directly, Walz asked them to consider the impact on the women in their lives, saying “their lives are truly at stake.”

Trump’s campaign, defending the remarks, called the backlash “fake media outrage,” with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stating Trump’s comments were about Cheney’s pro-war stance. Trump later doubled down on Truth Social, arguing that Cheney “would never fight herself” and blaming the Cheney family for “decimating the Middle East.”
