Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Donald Trump for “disrespecting sacred ground” during his recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery, where he took photos and distributed images despite a federal ban on campaign activities at the site. Harris, in a statement posted on X, cited reports that Trump’s campaign aides created an altercation with cemetery staff after being warned not to take photos, including at the graves of Afghanistan war veterans.
Trump’s visit, where he laid wreaths in honor of service members killed during the 2021 U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, was part of his ongoing criticism of President Biden and Harris over the withdrawal’s handling. Despite warnings, Trump’s campaign allegedly filmed the event, leading to an altercation with cemetery staff, though no charges were pressed.
Harris condemned Trump’s actions, accusing him of exploiting the cemetery for political gain and referenced past allegations that Trump disparaged fallen service members. The Trump campaign has defended its actions, claiming they had permission to film.
