Vice President Kamala Harris condemned leaders who focus on “beating down” others during a campaign stop in Rochester, Pa., on Sunday. Without naming him directly, Harris appeared to take aim at former President Donald Trump, contrasting her leadership approach with his.
“This campaign is about recognizing that real strength in a leader is about who you lift up, not who you beat down,” Harris told supporters, adding, “Anybody who’s about beating down other people is a coward.”
Trump, known for his harsh rhetoric towards opponents, has previously attacked Harris, calling her “incompetent” and questioning her racial identity. GOP members have urged Trump to focus more on policy rather than personal insults as the presidential race tightens.
Harris’s comments came during a bus tour of western Pennsylvania with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The vice president is set to attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago later this week to accept the Democratic nomination.
