VoteVets, a progressive political action committee known for supporting veterans’ issues and Democratic-leaning veterans running for office, has announced plans to invest $45 million in efforts to reelect President Joe Biden and support other Democrats in the upcoming elections. The initiative, first reported by The New York Times and confirmed by The Hill, will focus heavily on a $15 million campaign targeting veterans and active-duty military families in key presidential battleground states.

The group has identified several priority races, including the reelection campaigns of incumbent Democratic senators in Montana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Additionally, VoteVets will support Democratic Representatives Ruben Gallego (Arizona) and Elissa Slotkin (Michigan), both running for Senate, and Representative Andy Kim (New Jersey), who is challenging Senator Bob Menendez.

VoteVets aims to counter former President Trump’s influence among military members, noting a decrease in his support from the 2016 to the 2020 elections. The group’s co-founder, Jon Soltz, highlighted Trump’s support for individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and his derogatory comments about military officials and Gold Star families. These points will be emphasized in VoteVets’ advertising campaigns, including a recent spot aired in Pennsylvania featuring Trump’s disparaging remarks about veterans.

VoteVets’ efforts extend beyond military families, as seen in Georgia’s 2022 Senate race, where they released an ad against Republican candidate Herschel Walker, accusing him of defrauding the government at the expense of veterans. Walker lost the race to Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, demonstrating the impact of VoteVets’ messaging.
