Biotech billionaire and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is preparing to run for governor of Ohio in 2026, sources confirmed. Ramaswamy, co-head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Elon Musk, has been working on ambitious spending-cut goals for the newly established department.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is term-limited, and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted will replace Vice President-elect J.D. Vance in the Senate, freeing him from a gubernatorial bid. This opens the race to candidates like Ramaswamy and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who is also expected to run.
DOGE, a Trump initiative aimed at reducing government waste, targets $1 trillion in cuts by July 4, 2026. Ramaswamy plans to finalize his accomplishments there before launching his gubernatorial campaign.
