Ohio Sen. JD Vance, now the Republican vice-presidential nominee, criticized Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday, calling her “trash” while responding to recent comments by President Biden. At a rally in Atlanta, Vance said, “The citizens of this country are not garbage for thinking that you’re doing a bad job,” and later declared, “In two days, we are gonna take out the trash in Washington, D.C., and the trash’s name is Kamala Harris.”
Biden recently faced backlash for remarks made during a Voto Latino call, where he condemned a racist joke about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally. He said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter’s…demonization of Latinos,” later clarifying on X that his “garbage” comment referred to “hateful rhetoric” targeting Puerto Ricans.
The White House later revised the transcript, correcting it from “supporters’” to “supporter’s.” Harris later responded, noting Biden had “clarified” the remarks and emphasized her opposition to criticizing voters based on their candidate choice.
