Vice President JD Vance is set to accompany his wife on a trip to Greenland this Friday, stating he didn’t want her to “have all that fun by herself.” In a video posted Tuesday, Vance said, “We want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it’s important to protecting the security of the entire world.”

President Donald Trump has renewed interest in Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, due to its strategic location and natural resources. Vance plans to visit a U.S. Space Force outpost, citing threats to Greenland, the U.S., and Canada from other global powers.

Originally, Usha Vance and a U.S. delegation were scheduled to attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, Greenland’s national dogsled race, and visit cultural sites. Her husband’s participation has now reoriented the trip around security priorities.

Trump previously floated acquiring Greenland during his first term—a proposal Denmark and Greenland’s leaders rejected. Since returning to office, Trump has revived ambitions for territorial expansion, including annexing Canada and seeking control of the Panama Canal.
