A legal defense fund for Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has raised over $200,000 through GiveSendGo. The campaign, organized by “The December 4th Legal Committee,” claims to support Mangione’s right to fair representation, drawing donations and messages from thousands.

Some donors expressed anti-corporate sentiments, with comments like “Eat the rich!” GiveSendGo defended hosting the campaign, emphasizing due process, while platforms like GoFundMe removed similar fundraisers for policy violations.

Mangione, facing state murder and federal terrorism charges, pleaded not guilty during his Manhattan arraignment. Federal prosecutors are pursuing charges that could lead to the death penalty. His attorney, Karen Friedman Angifilo, criticized his treatment as a “political spectacle.”

Law enforcement officials expressed concern over the public’s idolization of Mangione, citing parallels to past cases like the Unabomber. An intelligence bulletin highlighted rising online threats against CEOs, including “hit lists” and slogans found at the crime scene.

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg called the glorification of Mangione “deeply disturbing” and vowed accountability.
