Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot Wednesday morning outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan. The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. Thompson was taken to Mount Sinai West in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.
The gunman, described as wearing a cream-colored jacket, gray backpack, and black face mask, fled east on Sixth Avenue. Authorities believe Thompson was deliberately targeted and are actively searching for the suspect.
Thompson, who became CEO of UnitedHealthcare in April 2021, had been with the company since 2004. UnitedHealthcare, a leading U.S. corporation, reported $372 billion in revenue in 2023.
