The U.S. will immediately resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following bilateral talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday. Ukraine signaled its “readiness” to accept a 30-day ceasefire proposal.
A joint statement from the talks confirmed that Ukraine agreed to the U.S.-proposed ceasefire, contingent on Russia’s acceptance and implementation. The U.S. pledged to communicate that “Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace.”
The decision comes after a tense Oval Office meeting last month between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump has recently pushed Ukraine toward negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and potential economic agreements.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz represented the U.S. delegation, while Zelensky’s top aide, Andrii Yermak, led Ukraine’s delegation. The ceasefire agreement remains subject to further negotiations with Russia.
