WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States is preparing to launch military strikes inside Venezuela targeting installations tied to President Nicolás Maduro’s Cartel of the Suns drug network, according to The Miami Herald.

Sources told the paper that the operation could begin within hours or days, with the goal of crippling the cartel’s leadership and facilities. The Trump administration alleges the cartel exports more than 500 tons of cocaine each year and operates with the backing of top Venezuelan military and government officials.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi recently doubled the reward for information leading to Maduro’s capture to $50 million, calling him “one of the world’s biggest drug traffickers and a threat to our national security.” Additional $25 million bounties remain in place for senior regime figures, including Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López.

The United States has built a major military presence near Venezuela, including destroyers, F-35B fighter jets, and armed drones stationed in the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. The USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group arrived last week, bringing roughly 90 combat aircraft and 4,000 personnel.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the deployment as part of a broader effort to neutralize transnational criminal networks. Analysts believe the strikes will focus on precision attacks rather than a ground invasion, similar to previous U.S. counterterrorism operations.
