The office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that U.S. airstrikes targeted pro-Iran entities in Iraq, leading to 16 fatalities, with civilians among the deceased, and leaving 25 individuals wounded. The Iraqi government has criticized these actions, labeling them as an infringement on Iraq’s sovereignty and disputing claims that there was prior coordination with Washington. The statement issued strongly opposed the notion that the Baghdad government had any involvement in the planning of these strikes, dismissing such ideas as unfounded.
The Iraqi Prime Minister’s office also highlighted concerns regarding the presence of the U.S.-led military coalition in the area. It argued that this presence not only jeopardizes the security and stability of Iraq but also drags the nation into the midst of regional and international disputes.
