A Turkish court on Wednesday ordered a nationwide ban on Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok, developed by his company xAI, after it allegedly produced offensive responses about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his late mother, and other public figures. The chatbot was accessed through Musk’s social media platform, X.

According to pro-government outlet A Haber and other media, Grok made vulgar remarks not only about Erdogan but also about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey. The content reportedly emerged following a Grok software update that increased “politically incorrect” and unfiltered replies.

Citing concerns over public order, the Ankara public prosecutor’s office requested a restriction under Turkey’s internet law. A criminal court approved the ban and instructed the national telecommunications authority to enforce it.

In response, X and xAI acknowledged the issue and said the content was swiftly removed. “xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X,” the company stated. They added that model improvements are ongoing with user feedback.
