Tulsi Gabbard, former Hawaii congresswoman, expressed her willingness to be Donald Trump’s running mate following his conviction on 34 felony charges in his hush money trial. Speaking at the Richard Nixon Library and Museum in California, Gabbard stated, “I have dedicated my entire adult life to serving our country and if asked to serve in that way, I’d be honored.”
Gabbard, who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, was promoting her book, “For Love of Country: Leave the Democrat Party Behind,” when she made the remarks. The audience responded with applause and cheers.
Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party in 2022, is among several individuals rumored to be on Trump’s vice presidential shortlist. In March, she signaled openness to running with Trump to “be in a position to solve problems.” Trump has not yet confirmed his running mate.
Addressing Trump’s conviction, Gabbard called the jury’s verdict a “perfect example” of “dictator-type action” by President Biden. She criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Judge Juan Merchan, stating, “This is not the America that my brothers and sisters who wear the uniform risked our lives to defend.”
Judge Merchan scheduled Trump’s sentencing for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention.
Gabbard concluded her remarks by encouraging the crowd not to be disheartened. “I don’t want you going home tonight depressed,” she said.
