Former President Donald Trump may have hurt his defense in the DOJ’s federal election subversion case, according to legal analyst Glenn Kirschner. Trump faces charges for allegedly trying to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election win, leading to the January 6 Capitol riot. Kirschner cited Trump’s recent interview on Gutfeld! where he recounted an incident involving Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, suggesting he had the power to stop protests by his supporters.
Kirschner argues this undermines Trump’s defense by showing he knew how to halt violence from his followers but did not do so during the Capitol riot. Trump, however, waited hours before asking rioters to leave the Capitol. Kirschner said this narrative could be damaging in court, showing Trump either failed to act on January 6 or could be labeled as lying to the jury.
