A judge ruled on Friday that Donald Trump’s sentencing for his Manhattan criminal conviction will be delayed until November 26, after Election Day. The sentencing was originally set for September 18. Justice Juan Merchan emphasized that the court’s decision was meant to avoid any political bias, stating, “The Court is a fair, impartial and apolitical institution.”

Trump had requested the delay, citing the need for time to explore appeal options following a Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. His legal team argued that the original timing could interfere with early voting. Prosecutors deferred to Merchan’s judgment on the matter.

This delay means that voters will head to the polls without knowing Trump’s potential punishment for his conviction on falsifying business records related to a hush money payment. Although Trump faces criminal charges in four separate cases, only the hush money case has gone to trial, and the sentencing for that will likely be postponed further if appeals are pursued.
