Former President Donald Trump’s political action committee, Save America, has seen its funds dwindle to less than $4 million after accounting for its debt, according to new federal election filings. In 2024, Trump has been spending nearly $5 million per month, predominantly on legal bills. As of the end of May, the PAC had just enough to cover a single month’s legal expenses.
Trump has avoided using his personal fortune, relying instead on donor funds through his PAC. His legal battles include a New York trial with 34 felony counts and three other criminal indictments. In May alone, Trump’s principal lawyer Todd Blanche received $1.8 million.
Overall, Trump has spent over $100 million on legal and investigation-related bills since 2021. Save America had $4,474,030 at the end of May and $861,630 in unpaid bills. Despite these costs, Trump’s legal issues have galvanized his base, with the campaign raising $53 million online in 24 hours following his May conviction.
While Trump’s PAC covers his legal expenses, a fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee has provided additional funds. Trump’s advisers have also set up a legal defense fund, though its public accounting remains outdated. Significant payments in May included $450,000 to John F. Lauro and $236,148 to Chris Kise & Associates. Non-legal expenses included $80,533 for lodging and catering at Trump’s Bedminster property.
