Donald Trump’s lawyers are asking a New York judge to overturn his hush money conviction and dismiss the case, arguing it was tainted by inadmissible evidence due to a recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. They claim Manhattan prosecutors rushed the trial despite the high court considering Trump’s immunity claims.
Convicted in May of falsifying records to cover up a potential sex scandal, Trump’s lawyers argue that some evidence, such as his communications with White House officials and financial disclosures, should have been excluded. The Supreme Court’s decision grants broad protections to presidents, complicating the use of certain evidence.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office has until July 24 to respond, with the judge set to rule on the defense’s requests on September 6 and potentially sentence Trump on September 18. If sentenced, Trump plans to appeal.
