NBC News projects that former President Donald Trump has won the presidential election, becoming the second president in U.S. history to serve two nonconsecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland. Trump is also the first person with felony convictions to hold the presidency.

Vice President Kamala Harris underperformed in key states, lagging behind in several that President Joe Biden had previously won. She left her supporters early this morning without delivering a speech but is expected to address them later today.

Meanwhile, Republicans are projected to control the Senate, while control of the House remains undetermined.
