President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that the United States could withdraw financial aid to Argentina if President Javier Milei loses his upcoming midterm elections. “If he loses, we are not going to be generous with Argentina,” Trump said during Milei’s visit to the White House, calling the Argentine leader “MAGA all the way.”

Trump’s administration recently approved a $20 billion bailout to stabilize Argentina’s economy amid rising inflation and a weakening peso. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the deal aimed to help Argentina through a period of “acute illiquidity.” Despite the aid, markets remain volatile, and Milei’s approval ratings have slipped ahead of the October 26 vote.

Critics question how such a bailout aligns with Trump’s “America First” policy, but the president argued it supports “a great philosophy taking over a great country.” Analysts say Trump’s move signals an effort to bolster right-wing leadership in Latin America while countering China’s influence in the region.

Trump also threatened trade penalties on Spain for failing to meet NATO defense spending goals, saying he may impose tariffs as punishment.
