President Donald Trump warned Hamas that it faces “complete obliteration” if it does not accept his 20-point peace plan to end the Gaza war and release hostages by Sunday at 6 p.m., U.S. officials said.
Trump’s ultimatum comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to halt bombing in Gaza to facilitate negotiations and encourage a hostage exchange. Both leaders described the ceasefire as crucial to achieving lasting peace, with Trump claiming Hamas is “ready to negotiate.”
The plan reportedly includes terms for a ceasefire, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners. Hamas has not publicly confirmed its position.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned that the hostage release represents only the first phase of a complex process, stressing that “the war in Gaza is not over yet.”
