President-elect Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a recent phone call, advising him not to escalate the Ukraine war, according to The Washington Post. Trump emphasized the U.S. military’s strong presence in Europe and expressed interest in a follow-up discussion on a “resolution of Ukraine’s war.” The call took place from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, declined to comment on the conversation, adding that world leaders are eager to strengthen ties with Trump for global stability. Trump has frequently claimed he could broker a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine war, though the Kremlin has downplayed this as “exaggeration.”The call with Putin followed Trump’s conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who described it as positive, saying he didn’t feel “despair.” Trump reportedly assured ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine, while Elon Musk pledged continued service through Starlink, a vital communication tool for Ukraine.

Details on how Trump plans to end the conflict remain unclear, though speculation includes the possibility of a demilitarized zone in eastern Ukraine. Trump’s outreach to global leaders has reportedly occurred without involvement from the U.S. State Department or government interpreters.
