Former President Trump is set to sign an executive order prohibiting transgender individuals from serving openly in the military. The order, part of Trump’s push to eliminate what his administration calls “gender insanity,” also bars transgender women from using female-designated facilities and rejects the use of pronouns tied to gender identity.

This action follows Trump’s Jan. 20 order revoking a 2021 Biden-era policy that allowed transgender service members and prohibited gender identity-based discharges. Trump’s latest directive requires Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to outline military readiness standards declaring transgender troops unfit for service, citing concerns about “unit cohesion.”

Experts refuted the fact sheet’s claims about lengthy recovery times for transgender medical procedures, noting most patients recover within weeks and do not rely on narcotics long-term. Critics argue this policy parallels past exclusions targeting marginalized groups, including women and Black service members.
