Donald Trump warned Apple Friday that if it does not manufacture iPhones sold in the U.S. domestically, it will face a 25% tariff.

“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s [sic] that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S.”

The ultimatum comes despite Apple’s $500 billion expansion pledge and its shift of some production from China to India.

Analysts caution the plan is unfeasible. Wedbush’s Dan Ives noted that producing iPhones in New Jersey or Texas would hike their retail price to around $3,500. “The reality of a $1,000 iPhone… would disappear,” he said.

Experts say such a move could drastically reshape global supply chains and harm U.S. consumers.
