Senior Trump administration officials, including National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, are set to travel to Saudi Arabia for peace talks with Russian and Ukrainian negotiators, according to U.S. officials. However, Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine-Russia talks, retired General Keith Kellogg, will not attend.
European powers have not been invited, raising concerns among NATO allies. Representative Mike McCaul confirmed the plans at the Munich Security Conference, where European leaders stressed that Ukraine must be directly involved. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated, “A dictated peace will never find our support.”
Trump told reporters he expects to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia, saying, “We’ll meet and see if we can get something done.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains skeptical, saying, “Putin is a liar.”
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ruled out Ukraine joining NATO as part of a peace deal, a stance that faced criticism and was later softened.
