Former President Donald Trump campaigned in Pennsylvania on Saturday, taking aim at Vice President Kamala Harris’s appearance while his allies urged him to focus on policy differences. “I am much better looking than her,” Trump remarked to supporters in Wilkes-Barre, referencing a recent Time Magazine cover featuring Harris. He also criticized the magazine for using an artist’s sketch instead of a photograph.
During the rally, Trump attacked Harris and other Democratic figures, including Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro and Senator Bob Casey. He claimed Harris’s campaign did not choose Shapiro as a running mate “because he is Jewish” and reiterated his criticism of Jewish voters who support Democrats.
While Trump did address policy issues like immigration, crime, and foreign policy, he couldn’t resist jabs at Harris’s economic plan and stance on fracking, an important issue for Pennsylvania voters. Despite pressure from some Republicans to focus on policy rather than personal insults, Trump’s rhetoric remained a mix of both.
Trump’s remarks come as Pennsylvania is poised to be a key battleground in the upcoming election, with its 19 Electoral College votes up for grabs. Recent polls show a tight race between Harris and Trump.
