President Donald Trump announced he is nominating State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce as the next U.S. deputy representative to the United Nations. Bruce, who has served as the department’s spokesperson since Trump took office in January, will require Senate confirmation, where Republicans hold a majority.

In his social media post, Trump praised Bruce for doing a “fantastic job” defending his administration’s foreign policy, including on immigration crackdowns, visa revocations, and responses to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Before joining the administration, Bruce was a Fox News political contributor for over two decades and authored several books critical of liberal policies.

Bruce thanked Trump, writing that her new role would begin in the “next few weeks” and that she was committed to promoting “America First leadership and values” globally.

If confirmed, Bruce will work under Trump’s pick for U.N. ambassador, former national security adviser Mike Waltz, whose own confirmation is still pending following his ouster in May after a controversy involving military strike discussions.
