President-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone Friday with Chinese President Xi Jinping, days before his inauguration. Trump said the conversation covered topics including trade, fentanyl, TikTok, and global security. “The call was very good… I expect we will solve many problems together,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The call coincided with China’s announcement that Vice President Han Zheng would attend Monday’s inauguration. Trump, who previously proposed banning TikTok, now aims to preserve the app despite bipartisan legislation mandating its sale or shutdown by Jan. 19 due to national security concerns.
President Biden has stated he won’t enforce the ban.
