President Trump has named Democrat David Rosner as chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), bypassing the commission’s sole Republican member. Rosner, appointed to FERC by then-President Biden, is a former aide to Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) when Manchin led the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

“I am honored to serve as Chairman and excited to continue working with my colleagues … to enable reliable, affordable, and abundant energy for all Americans,” Rosner said in a statement.

FERC oversees interstate energy pipelines, power lines, and natural gas export terminals. While the president selects its chair, the commission operates independently, with no more than three members from the same political party.

The five-member panel currently includes Rosner, fellow Democrat Judy Chang, and Republican Lindsay See. As chair, Rosner will set the agency’s agenda and manage administrative operations.
