Donald Trump hinted Tuesday at possibly deporting Elon Musk, escalating their ongoing feud over his tax and spending bill. When asked whether Musk, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from South Africa, could be deported, Trump said, “I think we’ll have to take a look.”
Trump added, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon… DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible?”
The president’s remarks came amid Musk’s vocal opposition to Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which ends electric vehicle tax credits and includes deep cuts to Medicaid and food stamps. Musk, CEO of Tesla, accused lawmakers supporting the bill of endorsing “the biggest debt increase in history,” citing a $3.3 trillion projected deficit spike.
Though Musk has been a U.S. citizen for over 20 years, Trump’s comments drew attention for implying punitive action based on policy disagreements. The bill passed the Senate and awaits a final vote in the House.
