President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday aiming to eliminate seven federal agencies, including those focused on media, libraries, museums, and homelessness.

The order directs the agencies to “reduce the performance of their statutory functions” and requires agency heads to report full compliance within seven days. Among the targeted agencies are:

  • U.S. Agency for Global Media (parent of Voice of America and Radio Free Asia)
  • Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (a Smithsonian-affiliated think tank)
  • Institute of Museum and Library Services (which supports libraries and museums nationwide)
  • U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (which coordinates efforts to prevent homelessness)
  • Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (which resolves labor disputes)
  • Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (which supports economic opportunities in underserved areas)
  • Minority Business Development Agency (which promotes minority-owned businesses)

The move is part of Trump’s government overhaul, spearheaded by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Federal courts have already blocked some layoffs, and the White House plans to appeal.
