President Trump has signed an executive order aimed at restructuring the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), signaling potential changes in how the agency responds to national disasters.

The order, announced Sunday, establishes the Federal Emergency Management Agency Review Council, a task force tasked with evaluating FEMA and recommending reforms. The council will include the secretaries of Homeland Security and Defense, along with private-sector experts.

The move follows recent GOP criticisms alleging FEMA’s disaster responses are biased against Republican-led states. Trump has even suggested eliminating FEMA altogether, though only Congress has the authority to do so.

Trump’s order comes days after visiting fire-damaged areas in Southern California, where he hinted at withholding federal disaster aid in states like California. Critics argue such moves could shift the burden of disaster response to governors, who lack federal resources.
