President Trump signed an executive order Wednesday aimed at incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into U.S. education, with a focus on preparing students for a future economy increasingly driven by AI technologies.

“The basic idea…is to ensure that school children…are adequately trained in AI tools,” said White House staff secretary Will Scharf. The initiative encourages schools to partner with the private sector and instructs Education Secretary Linda McMahon to prioritize federal funds for teacher training and AI integration across subjects.

According to The Washington Post, a draft of the order outlines plans for an AI education task force to foster collaboration between federal agencies and tech companies, promoting foundational AI literacy and critical thinking.

While AI has seen growing use in classrooms, the technology raises concerns over cheating, bullying, and broader ethical implications. Trump previously signed a January order reducing AI regulations and increasing investment in AI infrastructure.

“AI is where it seems to be at,” Trump said during the signing.
