Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will relocate to Huntsville, Alabama, reversing President Biden’s 2023 decision to keep the command in Colorado Springs. Speaking at the White House alongside Republican lawmakers, Trump said the move would create more than 30,000 jobs and bring “hundreds of billions” to Alabama.

“The U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of Huntsville, Alabama, forever to be known as Rocket City,” Trump said, adding that Colorado’s reliance on mail-in voting contributed to his decision. “When a state is for mail-in voting, that means they want dishonest elections.”

Huntsville, home to the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Redstone Arsenal, and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, was identified by the Air Force in 2021 as its preferred site. The Government Accountability Office later found transparency issues in the decision-making process, and Biden had kept the temporary Colorado location permanent citing readiness concerns.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) praised Trump for “restoring merit and integrity,” while criticizing Biden’s choice as politically motivated. Trump’s remarks also touched on speculation about his health and included comments on sending armed troops into Chicago and Baltimore, similar to his recent deployment of National Guard forces in Washington, D.C.
